Purple Cookie Truck, 2012
This cookie truck is as purple as it is sketchy. Unmarked, it lives anywhere on the perimeter of my ex-apartment building in East Oakland, but it was usually parked towards the back, unpopulated side. The owner was a dried up looking brown man with a grey and balding head of hair. He would sit outside of his truck in a dirty red polyester folding chair, and he was always talking business, cigar in hand. During the four months I lived at 1925, this was the only time the cookie truck was seen from my screened in bedroom window. Sometimes I would catch the purple mystery riding on the highway, eastward bound on 580, towards the parts of Oakland I have not and probably will never see…
